It has been discovered that Skyrim DLC is encoded with a language pack. This is contrary to the popular belief that the game is only in English. Looking closer, it seems this language pack was created for British English speakers and not American English speakers. The language pack was created by Bethesda Game Studios and contains a unique set of sounds ("soune") for use in Skyrim dialogues, menu screens, shouts, text dialogue boxes, loading screens and interface menus. In load screen sound files the soune is "ENGLISH_ENG". In the concept art for Skyrim, soune is misspelled as "soun". In the soune tables in the LANGUAGE.RSC file the language pack is referenced. In the editor this language pack is named "ENGLISH_ENG" and contains a large set of soune numbers, not all of which have been used. Every number corresponds to a different English word or phrase. The soune numbers have been used to create a dictionary containing words for British English speakers. The missing soune numbers are assumed to be used in American English. This dictionary can be found in data\\speech\\zvoice_*. txt. A large portion of the soune numbers are used for the menu screens, loading screens, text boxes and interface menus. Although this language pack is in .bik format, it is not used in any of the game trailers. The data directory also contains a number of files with "LANGUAGE_ENG" in the name which are assumed to be copies of LANGUAGE.RSC that can be modified by future DLC or updates.
